Power Integrations CAP012DG-TL is a 1000 V CAPZero device for automatic discharge of an AC-input X capacitor through external resistors after mains removal. The D package is an SO-8, and -TL denotes tape-and-reel ordering.
Technical values follow the Power Integrations CAPZero family data sheet, Rev. H (March 2018). Validate the current controlled revision and end-product safety requirements.
CAP012DG-TL is a two-terminal CAPZero family device. With AC connected, it interrupts the continuous X-capacitor discharge-resistor current. When AC is removed, it reconnects the external resistor path. The X capacitor, R1 and R2, MOV location and surge requirements are part of the complete design.
The family data sheet specifies less than 5 mW consumption at 230 VAC in its intended circuit.
AC removal reconnects the external X-capacitor discharge path without firmware.
No separate bias supply or ground connection is required.
The prescribed SO-8 pin arrangement supports more than 4 mm creepage and clearance across package and PCB.
CAP012 belongs to the 1000 V D1-to-D2 voltage grade; confirm surge margin in the actual circuit.
Table 1 selects 1.5 MΩ nominal total R1 + R2 for the CAP012 X-capacitance row.
Duplicated D1 and D2 pins provide the only electrical IC connections.
The discharge path is disconnected during AC operation to reduce standing resistor loss.
The manufacturer's D code is plastic SO-8, matching the LCDChip registry's 8-SOIC entry. The drawing gives a 3.90 mm nominal body width and 1.27 mm lead pitch. G denotes the green material option; -TL denotes tape and reel.

This generic package image is not a controlled mechanical drawing.

Shown as NC in the manufacturer pin drawing. Follow its same-side pad-coupling and layout guidance.
Only pins 2, 3, 6 and 7 are electrically connected to the IC.

Absolute-maximum ratings are not operating targets. Verify electrical-table test conditions and tolerances in the data sheet.
CAP002DG is the manufacturer's 825 V counterpart in the same 500 nF / 1.5 MΩ selection row. This does not establish a drop-in replacement: compare surge margin, MOV placement, ordering code, land pattern and safety evidence before substitution. No internal alternative link is provided without a verified destination product page.
Power Integrations documents CAP012 and its ordering-code structure in the CAPZero family data sheet, Rev. H. Obtain current manufacturer-controlled lifecycle and qualification information before production use.
X-capacitor discharge networks in line-operated supplies.
Input filtering where permanent bleed-resistor loss matters.
Line-side EMI filtering subject to system safety assessment.
X-capacitor selection with an automatically controlled discharge path.
Verify device marking, package geometry and lot traceability against current manufacturer documentation. Check insulation spacing, resistor ratings and end-product safety tests separately; a generic package image does not certify a physical lot.
No separate low-voltage supply is required in the manufacturer's two-terminal circuit.
No. External R1 and R2 remain necessary.
The D1-to-D2 voltage grade; final surge testing and MOV placement still govern suitability.
No. It is an 825 V selection-row counterpart and requires an independent circuit and safety review.
AC-line circuitry carries hazardous voltages. Qualified engineers must validate X-capacitor class, resistor fault and voltage ratings, creepage, clearance, MOV location, surge waveforms and discharge time against applicable end-product standards. Component data is not blanket safety approval.
