LSI/CSI LS7084N converts A/B quadrature encoder signals into a clock and an Up/Down direction output in an 8-pin, 300 mil DIP through-hole package.
The exact DIP order code and pin functions are listed in the LSI/CSI LS7083N/LS7084N manufacturer datasheet.
LS7084N is a CMOS quadrature clock converter for incremental optical or magnetic encoder interfaces. Its A and B inputs are filtered on chip and translated to CLK pulses plus an UP/DN direction level for a connected counter. Unlike LS7083N, which provides separate up-clock and down-clock outputs, LS7084N combines those events into one clock line and a direction indication.
Generates CLK and UP/DN outputs from two quadrature inputs.
The MODE input selects x1, x2 or x4 decoding as documented by the manufacturer.
Input validation helps reject encoder dither in optical or magnetic sensing.
An external resistor on RBIAS sets output clock pulse width.
DC electrical characteristics specify 3 V to 12 V across VDD and VSS.
MODE low selects x1, floating selects x2 and high selects x4 resolution.
Manufacturer describes TTL- and CMOS-compatible I/O.
The manufacturer product page lists up to 16 MHz output clock frequency; allowable A/B input timing depends on the selected mode and validation delay.
The unsuffixed LS7084N is the 8-pin plastic DIP variant with a 300 mil body. LCDChip registers the matching 8-DIP (0.300 inch, 7.62 mm) package. LS7084N-S is a surface-mount SOIC variant with a different footprint.

The registered 8-DIP JPG is not present locally. The expected path is retained for a later verified package image.
The LSI/CSI LS7084N pin table identifies these functions for the 8-pin device.
Connect an external resistor to VSS to set output clock pulse width.
Positive and negative supply terminals, respectively.
Quadrature encoder clock inputs.
Three-state resolution selection: low x1, float x2, high x4.
High when A leads B; low when A lags B.
Combined clock output for both count directions.
Observe the manufacturer's rising-edge counting requirement for CLK.

Output pulse width depends on RBIAS and must not exceed the A/B pulse separation specified by the manufacturer.
LS7084N-S is the manufacturer-listed SOIC package variant with the same clock/direction function, but it needs a surface-mount footprint. LS7083N shares the 8-pin DIP family but produces separate UPCK and DNCK outputs instead of LS7084N's CLK and UP/DN signals; it requires a different counter interface. Exact catalog records exist for both candidates, but their pages are currently unpublished, so no internal links are added. Neither is presented as a drop-in replacement.
LSI/CSI lists LS7084N among its in-production quadrature clock decoders and supplies the pin assignment, electrical characteristics and DIP outline in its LS7083N/LS7084N datasheet. Confirm current revision and ordering details before procurement.
Convert optical or magnetic quadrature outputs into count and direction signals.
Drive an up/down counter for direction and position sensing.
Interface rotary encoders with digitally controlled systems.
Provide filtered clock and direction information to control electronics.
Check the exact LS7084N order code, DIP body, pin-1 mark and traceability records on receipt. Validate electrical behavior against the current LSI/CSI datasheet and obtain lot or compliance documentation as the application requires.
It provides a combined CLK output and an UP/DN direction indication.
The manufacturer specifies a floating MODE input for x2; low selects x1 and high selects x4.
No. LS7084N-S is a surface-mount SOIC, while LS7084N is a through-hole DIP.
The manufacturer directs LS7084N counter interfaces to count on the rising edge of CLK.
This summary does not replace the controlled LSI/CSI datasheet. Verify RBIAS selection, A/B timing, MODE biasing, supply limits and rising-edge counting before design release. The registered package JPG has not yet been verified online.
