LSI/CSI LS7082N1-S converts A/B encoder quadrature and an index input into up-clock, down-clock, direction and synchronized index outputs. The -S ordering suffix identifies a 14-pin narrow-body SOIC surface-mount package.
The LS7082N1 manufacturer datasheet explicitly covers the LS7082N1-S SOIC variant and its 14-pin assignment.
LS7082N1-S is a CMOS interface for incremental optical or magnetic encoders. It validates the phase-related A and B inputs, emits separate low-going UPCK and DNCK pulses, indicates direction on UP/DN, and synchronizes encoder index information to quadrature activity. An external up/down counter can use these outputs for position and direction sensing.
UPCK and DNCK simplify interfaces that accept distinct up- and down-count pulses.
A dedicated INDX input and synchronized index output support position-reference events.
Control inputs select x1, x2 or x4 quadrature decoding.
An external RBIAS resistor controls output-clock pulse width.
3 V to 12 V in the manufacturer electrical-characteristics table.
On-chip A/B validation helps reject encoder dither.
UP/DN is high for up count and low for down count.
The manufacturer lists output clock frequency up to 16 MHz, subject to timing constraints.
The -S suffix denotes the standard SOIC variant of the 14-pin LS7082N1 family. LCDChip registers the package as 14-SOIC (0.154 inch, 3.90 mm width). Use the manufacturer's 14-pin SOIC outline for lead pitch, body width and pin-1 orientation; the DIP version is not footprint-compatible.

The registered 14-SOIC JPG is not present locally. The expected path is retained until a verified image is supplied.
The following top-view assignments are taken from the LSI/CSI LS7082N1 datasheet, which names the -S SOIC variant.
Positive supply terminal.
Accepts encoder index-track pulses.
External resistor to VSS adjusts output pulse width.
Negative supply terminal.
Filtered quadrature inputs.
No connection per the manufacturer pin diagram.
Low selects x2 mode regardless of x4/x1.
With x2 high, low selects x1 and high selects x4.
High indicates up count; low indicates down count.
Low-going down-count and up-count pulses, respectively.
Synchronized low-going index-reference pulses.
Tie unused input pins to VDD or VSS as instructed by the manufacturer; NC pins are not inputs.

The manufacturer lists LS7082N1 as a DIP package version, but no exact LCDChip catalog record was found for it and its footprint differs. LS7083N-S is an 8-SOIC converter with separate up/down clocks but lacks the LS7082N1-S 14-pin index interface. LS7084N-S instead provides combined CLK plus UP/DN and also uses an 8-SOIC footprint. Exact records for those two alternatives exist, but their pages are unpublished; no internal links are added. None is presented as a drop-in replacement.
LSI/CSI lists LS7082N1-S as an in-production quadrature clock decoder. Its controlled datasheet provides the full pin table, mode-selection truth table, timing and electrical characteristics. Confirm current revision and order-code availability before procurement.
Convert optical or magnetic A/B signals to count clocks.
Use the index channel for a synchronized reference position.
Drive separate up and down count inputs.
Provide direction and position-reference information to control electronics.
Check the complete LS7082N1-S order code, 14-pin SOIC body, pin-1 mark and traceability on receipt. Confirm required environmental and lot documents with the supplier and validate device behavior against the current manufacturer datasheet.
Yes. Pin 2 accepts index pulses and pin 14 supplies synchronized index output pulses.
Drive pin 8 low; the x4/x1 input then does not change the x2 selection.
No. They are separate low-going outputs on pins 13 and 12.
No. This is a 14-SOIC part with a different pin assignment.
This summary does not replace the controlled LSI/CSI datasheet. Verify mode logic, index timing, RBIAS, supply limits, counter interface and package dimensions before design release. The registered package JPG remains unverified online.
