Power Integrations CAP009DG is an 825 V CAPZero device for automatic discharge of an AC-input X capacitor through external resistors when mains power is removed. The registered package is 8-SOIC (0.154-inch, 3.90 mm body width).
Functions, component selection, pinout and ordering-code interpretation follow the Power Integrations CAPZero family data sheet, Rev. H (March 2018). Confirm current lifecycle and safety documentation for the final application.
CAP009DG belongs to the two-terminal CAPZero family. While AC input is present, the IC blocks the current that would otherwise flow continuously through X-capacitor bleed resistors. After AC removal, it reconnects the external discharge path. The external X capacitor, two discharge resistors, MOV location and surge requirements are essential parts of the design.
CAPZero disconnects the normal bleed-resistor path during AC operation; the family data sheet states less than 5 mW at 230 VAC in its intended circuit.
Removal of AC reconnects the external resistors so the X capacitor can discharge without control firmware.
The two-terminal circuit needs no separate low-voltage bias supply or ground connection.
The SO-8 pin layout uses package width to support more than 4 mm creepage and clearance in the prescribed PCB arrangement.
CAP009 is the 825 V breakdown-voltage variant; choose voltage grade from the actual MOV placement and differential-surge test.
Manufacturer Table 1 specifies 150 kΩ minimum total R1 + R2 for the 5 µF selection row.
Designed for X-capacitor EMI networks in AC/DC equipment that must limit no-load power.
The data sheet gives duplicated D1/D2 electrical pins and a recommended same-side PCB connection scheme.
The manufacturer's D code denotes plastic SO-8, corresponding to the LCDChip registry's 8-SOIC entry. Its package drawing specifies a 3.90 mm nominal body width and 1.27 mm lead pitch. The G suffix denotes the manufacturer's green material option. The distinct -TL suffix denotes a tape-and-reel variant and is not part of this product model.

The image is a generic package illustration; the controlled mechanical drawing governs dimensions and board layout.
The manufacturer SO-8 top-view configuration identifies two duplicated electrical terminals and four nominally unconnected pins:
First line-side terminal of the internal switching path.
Second line-side terminal of the internal switching path.
Marked NC in the pin drawing. Follow the data sheet's recommended same-side pad coupling and PCB layout to preserve the intended clearance.
Only pins 2, 3, 6 and 7 make electrical IC connections. Do not infer a ground or control pin from the eight-lead package.
| Device function | Automatic X-capacitor discharge control IC |
|---|---|
| CAP009 breakdown-voltage grade | 825 V between D1 and D2 |
| Manufacturer selection row | Up to 5 µF total X capacitance |
| Nominal R1 + R2 | 150 kΩ minimum for the 5 µF Table 1 selection |
| Nominal RC target | Less than 1 s with the manufacturer's stated X-capacitor and resistor tolerances |
| AC-removal detection | 22 ms typical, 31.4 ms maximum at 47–63 Hz, per family electrical table |
| CAP009 drain saturation current | 2.5 mA, manufacturer electrical table |
| Operating ambient range | -10 °C to +105 °C |
| External bias | Not required |
| Electrical terminals | D1 on pins 2/3; D2 on pins 6/7 |
| Package | SO-8 / 8-SOIC, D code |
| Ordering code | D plastic SO-8 package; G green material option; no -TL suffix in this model |
The data-sheet electrical table uses TA = -10 °C to +105 °C unless otherwise stated. Voltage, current and temperature limits must be interpreted with their original test conditions; absolute-maximum ratings are not operating targets.
Power Integrations lists CAP019DG as the 1000 V counterpart to CAP009DG in the same 5 µF / 150 kΩ selection row. That relationship does not prove a drop-in substitution: compare the full ordering code, surge margin, MOV placement, component tolerances, SO-8 land pattern and safety evidence in the final circuit. The manufacturer also points to later CAPZero generations, whose circuit and ratings require independent redesign review. No internal product link is included because its rendered target page could not be verified locally.
Power Integrations documents the CAPZero family in its Rev. H data sheet. The CAP009 device is listed in its selection table, and the ordering-code diagram defines D, G and -TL. Use the current manufacturer-controlled information for lifecycle, qualification and document updates before a production commitment.
X-capacitor discharge networks in line-operated converters.
Input filtering where continuous bleed-resistor loss is material.
Line-side EMI filtering subject to system safety and standby-power goals.
Supports X-capacitor selection without permanently loading it with the discharge path.
Verify marking, package geometry and traceability against manufacturer documentation and the physical lot. Check insulation spacing, component ratings and end-product safety tests separately. A product description or generic package image cannot certify an individual device or completed power supply.
No separate low-voltage supply is required in the manufacturer's two-terminal application.
No. The circuit still requires external R1 and R2, selected for the X capacitor and fault requirements.
It is the CAP009 D1-to-D2 breakdown-voltage grade. The system surge waveform and MOV arrangement must still be checked.
No. It is the 1000 V selection-row counterpart, but complete package, ordering, circuit and safety checks remain necessary.
AC-line circuitry involves hazardous voltages. Qualified engineers must validate the manufacturer's application circuit, X-capacitor class, resistor voltage and fault ratings, creepage/clearance, MOV placement, surge testing and discharge time under the applicable end-product standards. Do not treat component-level data as a blanket safety approval.
