Power Integrations CAP004DG

CAP004DG belongs to the two-terminal CAPZero family. While AC input is present, the IC blocks the current that would otherwise flow continuously through X-capacitor bleed resistors. After AC removal, it reconnects the external discharge path. The external X capacitor, two discharge resistors, MOV location and surge requirements are essential parts of the design.

The manufacturer's D code denotes plastic SO-8, corresponding to the LCDChip registry's 8-SOIC entry. Its package drawing specifies a 3.90 mm nominal body width and 1.27 mm lead pitch. The G suffix denotes the manufacturer's green material option. The distinct -TL suffix denotes a tape-and-reel variant and is not part of this product model.

Layout checks

• Check the manufacturer's SO-8 pin-1 mark, outline and land pattern.
• Maintain the stated creepage/clearance across the package and PCB.
• Size R1 and R2 for both normal operation and the specified fault conditions.

The manufacturer SO-8 top-view configuration identifies two duplicated electrical terminals and four nominally unconnected pins:

Only pins 2, 3, 6 and 7 make electrical IC connections. Do not infer a ground or control pin from the eight-lead package.

The data-sheet electrical table uses TA = -10 °C to +105 °C unless otherwise stated. Voltage, current and temperature limits must be interpreted with their original test conditions; absolute-maximum ratings are not operating targets.

Power Integrations lists CAP014DG as the 1000 V counterpart to CAP004DG in the same 1 µF / 780 kΩ selection row. That relationship does not prove a drop-in substitution: compare the full ordering code, surge margin, MOV placement, component tolerances, SO-8 land pattern and safety evidence in the final circuit. The manufacturer also points to later CAPZero generations, whose circuit and ratings require independent redesign review. No internal product link is included because its rendered target page could not be verified locally.

Power Integrations documents the CAPZero family in its Rev. H data sheet. The CAP004 device is listed in its selection table, and the ordering-code diagram defines D, G and -TL. Use the current manufacturer-controlled information for lifecycle, qualification and document updates before a production commitment.

Verify marking, package geometry and traceability against manufacturer documentation and the physical lot. Check insulation spacing, component ratings and end-product safety tests separately. A product description or generic package image cannot certify an individual device or completed power supply.

AC-line circuitry involves hazardous voltages. Qualified engineers must validate the manufacturer's application circuit, X-capacitor class, resistor voltage and fault ratings, creepage/clearance, MOV placement, surge testing and discharge time under the applicable end-product standards. Do not treat component-level data as a blanket safety approval.
